How to Protect Your Books When You Carry Them Everywhere

Book sliding into a Dex Avenue book sleeve

I toss my current read in my tote every single morning. Keys, water bottle, a pen with no cap, all swimming around together. And then I act surprised when my cover looks rough by Friday.

If you carry your books everywhere like I do, here is what actually keeps them looking nice:

🧡 1. Give it its own little home

Paperback protected inside a padded book sleeve

A book loose in a bag takes every hit the bag takes. My current read stays in one of my padded book sleeves, which means I can toss my tote on the passenger seat without thinking twice. The cover stays clean, the pages stay flat. Honestly it just feels like part of the routine now.

πŸ“š 2. Stand it up, spine in

Flat under heavy stuff is how pages get wavy. I pack mine upright with the spine facing inward so the cover never catches on a zipper (learned that one the hard way).

πŸ’§ 3. Water bottle goes in the side pocket. Always.

They leak. They all leak eventually. Keep yours far away from your book. A sleeve buys you time in a spill, but distance is the real protection.

πŸ“– 4. Hardcovers are not invincible

Snap closure securing a thick book inside a sleeve

They feel indestructible until the first dented corner. Dust jackets tear, hinges crack, and then it never quite closes right again. Mine get the same treatment as my paperbacks.

✨ What I look for in a sleeve

Padding you can actually feel. A closure that stays closed so the book cannot slide out. And a size that fits what I really read, paperback to big hardcover. Not sure about yours? I tested real books and wrote it all up in the Dex Fit Guide.

How do you protect your current read? Tell me your bag setup, I am nosy about this stuff. Happy reading! 🌾
